As I heard it, there was one other little detail: the afternoon of the disaster, a dinner was being given at the Naval Ordnance center. one of the officers reached for his glass, which suddenly shattered at the stem. In keeping with sealore, he remarked, "That should mean a big ship sinking!"

Two good accounts of the disaster are Rupert Gould's essay in his book ENIGMAS, and Richard Hough's book, ADMIRALS IN COLLISION. Hanson Baldwin, in his book SEA FIGHTS AND SHIPWRECKS has a chapter entitled, "Death of an Admiral, 1893" about it, and it mentions the psychic event (Hough mentions several - a cup mysteriously crashed into pieces at the Officer's Club in Malta at the moment of the collision). One of the survivors was John Jellicoe, later Admiral at Jutland.
