Horses usually don't get very old. A Danish riding horse will in average become seven years old and a race horse about half of that.

Often are horses who get sick, have an injury or have man made behaviour issues given up.

These horses could often give us a new education if we took the opportunity.

Many horses that are given up could with more patience and care become well working happy horses. We can often hear about people getting a new horse and we see thousands of horses advertised for sale.

Horses are often given up if they don't jump high or run fast enough.

By easily giving up a horse I think you cheat yourself for a unique learning opportunity. Horses are very different and can teach you many things, they can teach you patience, humbleness, listening and communication and leadership skills, anger management, bodylanguage awareness and being, being in the moment and enjoying the moment.

Unfortunately the horse often become a commodity, a tool for people to use. A tool for fame, diplomas and money. In UK 15 000 horses are bread for the racing industry every year but only 5000 can be used, the other 10 000 cannot be used, they are slaughtered or often go from dealer to dealer.

When the horse becomes a tool , its life will not have much value, this relationship affects people. Deciding over life in a way like this is not good for ones moral self and not a way to treat common resources.

Its not about whether a running competiton between horses and people cannot be decent, but we cannot close our eyes and see thousands of horses being bread for no purpose at all and this do not serve our common future.

We need to consider how we take care of our recourses and consider our own practice. What do we buy? What do we support? What practices should we change?

Our common resources are not endless and they are afterall - common.

ps, if you wonder the horses with the "yellow" mouths are eating .. it' s mangos..

  • great video

I can tell you, many horses that get slaughtered here are standing on their last legs, they are often ill, so horse owners have to choose between a lethal injection, and paying for that.. or bringing the horse to slaughter, most choose for the last option.

Havent you notice the rising popularity of horse meat btw? gordon ramsay started to promote it, some diet gurus too, its the meat of the future!

  • hi 77, lets try to inspire as many people as possible to keep their horses as long as their keep their dogs, a companion for life, i think that is directly what me and you can do right on

    merry christmas! kind regards stina

  • My horses like blackberries--- purple lips this time of year.

People wonder why , if I like horses so much, I don't go to the racetrack.

  • oh well viva, i would not go to the race tracks either ever again, interessting they like blackberries.

my horses love banana, papaia, mango and guavas and we have plenty

  • Hi Stina,

    great video and great statement!

In Germany studied horse's live expectation fell below 7 years. 3,2 years service life for dressage horses and 3,5 years for jumping horses in avarage in 2003. I guess it is not getting better.

I am so glad it is possible to learn how to do it a different way and being much happier with that. Both, horse and human.

    Greetings!

  • Hi Piep, yes its too much how the horse has be come a use and abuse and throw away tool, we have to show examples that other ways are possible and gives much more pleasure

  • Thank you for your horsemanship. Your video made me cry, i lost my horse two month ago. For more than 15 years he meant everything to me. And i wish he had experienced in his life on earth a horse paradise which your horses live in. I hope that he is now in horse heaven, eating and smacking his favorite fruit: bananas...

  • Dear Blue, thanks for your comment, yes when the ego shadowes the real pleasures in life, you cheat only yourself
