Thanks for that analysis, one thing to note is that the lake of fire (valley of Gehenna) was meant for the 'second death' not eternal punishment. Just as a landfill fire can last for years, but destroys garbage completely, so will that lake of fire. It's not eternal torture, it is the end of existence for those who reject God's values calling black white, God evil.
David had an understanding that eternal life was possible and asked to not be forgotten (Psalm 16:10).

this kind of "philosophical" understanding makes for luke warm (c)hristians that will be spat out.
Jesus warns of the torments of hell many times.
eternal life in God's presence IS eternal life; second death IS ETERNAL damnation as ETERNAL punishment"where the worm does not die"," the smoke of their torment rises forever..There will be no rest day or night " separated from God forever in a space in an anti-universe prepared for the devil and his angels.
guy is probably a watered down anglican..

why would a parable like this be used then? or was that a prophecy Jesus was making?
you are correct that no one dead is anywhere..yet. but the lake of fire prepared for the devil and his angels is where the unsaved go; the smoke of their torment rises forever; wailing and gnashing of teeth; where the selfish rich beg for a drop water.
we were created to be eternal, where one spends it depends on their acknowledgement AND acceptance of Father Son Holy Spirit

@only1too Taking the bible as separate books makes it easy to misunderstand. Luke 16:22-28 is a parable, Abraham is not in heaven now, and neither is anyone else atm (1 Thes. 4:14, 12:2) they are asleep ... waiting for resurrection. Trying to rationalize a place where people are tortured forever makes no sense, after all the final wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). For info on the everlasting fire, read Revelation 20:14-15. The bible is one book and its hyper-threads tie it into perfect unity.

WRONG rich man and Lazarus; rich man ends up in Hell, describing it as a place of torment (Luke 16:22-28). The rich man cried out in Hell: ". . .I am tormented in this flame.
(Matthew13:41-43)will throw them into the furnace of fire, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Mark 9:46 Where the worm DOES NOT DIE and the fire is not quenched
Matthew 25:41 Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire
what do think eternal damnation means?

@Wolfman037 1 Corinthians 15:6. Genesis 3:19 God had made Adam from the dust of the ground. (Genesis 2:7) Before that, Adam did not exist. Therefore, when Jehovah said that Adam would return to a state of nonexistence. Adam would be as lifeless as the dust from which he was made. Question...why didn't Adam and Eve go to a burning hell? They commented the first sin. But the Bible said that Adam & Eve returned to dust.

@Wolfman037 Notice that Jesus compared death to rest and sleep. Lazarus was neither in heaven nor in burning hell, He was not meeting angels or ancestors. Lazarus was not being reborn as another human. He was at rest in death, as though in a deep sleep without dreams. Other scriptures also compare death to sleep. For example, when the disciple Stephen was stoned to death, the Bible says that he "fell asleep." (Acts 7:60) Similarly, he Apostle Paul wrote about some who had "fallen asleep" Death.

@Wolfman037 This is what Jesus said about the dead. Jesus Chirst spoke about the condition of the dead He did so with regard to Lazarus, a man whom he knew well and who had died. Jesus told his disciples: "lazarus our friend has gone to rest. "The disciples thought that jesus meant that Lazarus was resting in sleep, recovering from an illness. They were wrong. Jesus explained: " Lazarus has died." (John 11:11-14)
Hell and Heaven are beleived by stupid people.
