This is nothing new. I worked in a nursing home 30 years ago and it was common practise for them to accept 'patient's from the Ontario Hospital (Psych Hosp) to fill the beds. Some of these people were madly insane and had to be kept medicated 24-7. 4 men were extremely violent and were on a locked wing all by themselves. It was horrible. They shoved the old folkes around and the supervisors and owner of the home didn't give a shit as long as the $ rolled in. Keep your folks at home if you can!!

Mixing helpless elderly people with violent maniacs.

Wow, I honestly hope that this wasn't a serious response. My God...

Nursing homes are not equipped for younger healthier aggressive mentally ill people that can cause a great deal of damage. This is outrageous, I hope things have since changed.

Blake Griffin, is that you?
I worked in a nursing facility which admitted prisoners released from prison because of health problems, gang members (Bloods) & a myriad of middle-aged drug abusers from their mid-thirties through their 50's. Some of them were violent & they were often very disruptive (taking drugs & having hookers in their rooms). They don't belong in nursing homes with elderly & fragile people.

That's not always the case. Maybe the kind of "help" you tried to give was not what they considered help. Actually, I've met a lot of mentally ill people (I work with them) who GREATLY appreciate help. And people don't need to be trained to show kindness. A smile and the question, "How are you?" means a lot. If they respond ,"Not good," (which I've never heard them say,) you can say, "I'm sorry that you suffer." or something similarly.
