  • brennanoboe is right that is a medium hard and you need a medium soft or soft to start off and keep yourvfingers close to the keys and work on tounging

  • Okay well you have a really good tone to begin with...you should work more on that BUT starting with a lower hardness of the reed, and for about 7 months i would say go with a medium soft because you sound like your struggling with breathing. Also to practice more long tones in your scales like quarter and half notes just to help get used to the air pressure that you need and also more scales to get used to the notes. but thats basically it GREAT JOB!!

  • Okay...my suggestions for the oboe is to breathe at right places....yes, I can see you've been playing the oboe for 7 months. Also, breathe through your mouth. Not bad...I've been playing oboe for about less than a year but with some serious practice, you'll play like a pro in no time ;)

  • @brennanoboe if your buying reeds then get meduim soft, thats what i did my first few years. then once you get good, have someone or make them your self. that allows for adjustments to be made. ive been playing oboe for 5 years.

  • I'm a beginner oboe and I can't figure out how be able to change my volume especially make it softer can anyone help me?

  • get a softer reed play on the tip of the reed and pick a easier song to start off and learn scales so you know all your note fingerings ive been playing for 4 years now and i just hit a medium hard about a year back

  • First your reed is much too hard. Seci=ond what type of oboe are you playing? If you e-mail meat Johchance1 (at) aol (dot) com I will tryto help you as much as i can

  • Boy you have so much to learn but first, get a good reed. The one you're playing on is obviously too hard for you. What reeds are you using?
