Izvestia Goodbye Tribute 1991 - Canadian Triple Crown Winner

This is the goodbye to Izvestia, Canada's 1990 Triple Crown winner. Izvestia tragically broke down in his final race before retirement in 1991.

That's so sad that of all races to break down in it was his last race ever!Did he get put down or recover?It still is sad no matter what the answer is,he was beatiful.RIP Izvestia. :'(

Unfortunately he was put down. I was there that day and couldn't believe me eyes..watching a Triple Crown Winner have that happen to him. That's why I wish with all my heart that one day they can find a way to fix broken legs in horses. Izvestia will always bring fond memories back to me though, and I consider myself lucky to have watched him win the Triple Crown. He gets to run with Secretariat and Barbaro now. :)

Great runner..I remember when 'Izzy Goer' came to Belmont and competed in the JC Gold Cup and Breeders Cup classic. I remember Durkin's call of the Gold Cup...'Izvestia...the Canadian Grey leads the way...' Haven't seen a clip of that race yet

It says 1991 because this is the year he died. I was actually able to see him win it in 1990 and I was there the day of his last race which crushed me. I actually have seen 3 Plates recently after a long time of not going. It is always so fun. :) Glad you enjoyed this. I do have videos of many of Izvestia's races on my account if you haven't seen them in a long time.

I agree with you,I really hope they can find a reasonable way to fix bad breaks and infections,it must've been horrible for you to see that,he was amazing.
