Update: The B150 headset has been replaced by the B250.

I'll show you how to build a bluetooth audio interface to your radio. This gives you hands free operation and allows you to move around the hamshack. The range is typically line of sight, about 20-30 feet depending on how many walls you are having to transmit through. This interface gives you a lot of freedom in the shack to move around, surf, solder, work on projects while on the radio.

This uses a Jabra A-210 interface. This interface is made to plug into a cellphone's headset connector to allow a bluetooth headset to work with the cellphone. It is an easy project to interface to your radio's microphone and headphone connector.

We have also found the VXI BlueParrott B150 bluetooth headset to provide very good transmit audio.

Frank, K7SFN, has documented this interface on his webpage.

  • sony HWS-BTA2W might be an alternative as the a210's are starting to become less available.

  • @narejongen Thanks, I am not keeping up with alternatives or replacements.

  • Randy I did your bluetooth project a few years ago, got it working ok and set it aside.

I recently had the need for hearing aids and they have bluetooth. I thought aha the Jabra A210. So I dug it out and found it won't take a charge now. Now they are out of production and a few available at much higher prices . From what I have read the batteies don't last very long.

I was wondering if you or your buddies had found a substitute.

  • @rwcan42 HI, you might be able to kludge another battery to power this. Check at k7sfn.com to see if Frank has any ideas. Randy

  • Guess this should work the other way ? i.e. to connect a rig to a pc and wirelessly using a laptops bluetooth to get sound in and out

  • As an audiophile, I can totally tell the difference in audio quality between the two. But regardless, you did a great job and it's a brilliant idea. Most people won't notice the difference, I just have OCD.

  • @M0csi I'm not sure. You may have to hunt around. Look through the comments on here, someone may have found something else.
