there isn't an "official" start button in ubuntu, there are multiple menus that you can access your programs from. Overall it's free and better than Windows!

a play a game called runescape i have the exzact same ubuntu it downloads java but i try to play it says i still need to download i dont know what to do

This happens with Flash sometimes as well, even if you've done a manual install. I'll have to play with it today and see what I get.
Hopefully stuff like this gets fixed in the future. These are the minor frustrations that keep Ubuntu and other flavors of Linux behind Windows.

Yes, you can make it bloated and compared to years ago it's getting bigger. A person can also make it bloatier by installing a bunch of stuff that's always running.
That said, if I had a choice to run Windows or Ubuntu, I would run Ubuntu because of all the maintenance/security headaches with Windows and bloatiness of Windows.
However, since I'm a tech-kind of person, I like to run them all-Windows-whatever version starting at XP, Mac, and the Various flavors of Linux including Ubuntu, etc.
