In July 1928, Al was given an offer to join Fred Elizalde's Band at the Savoy Hotel, London. London was where Al longed to be, and he jumped at the chance. ''Just Imagine'' was the first British recording Al made with Fred Elizalde's Music on 25th July, 1928, for Brunswick. He also featured on the reverse side which was ''Wherever You Are'' and on ''After My Laughter Came Tears'' which, sadly, was never issued. Al Went on to record ''I'm Sorry, Sally'' ''If I Had You'' and ''Misery Farm'' with Fred Elizalde, and ''Sometimes'' with Van Phillips in this same year.
The photograph shows The Elizalde Band. Al is on the back row, fourth from the left, and Fred Elizalde is standing in the centre on the front row.
In part 4, I'll explain why Al was down on his luck in 1929.
Thanks for the Al Bowly biography. Do you have the book dealing with Al´s life?
My question to you: It is possible that Al was in Berlin in April 1930? I assume, yes. It´s important for me to know this. I think I've a record from this time where he sings in German.
