seriously, having him fight a massive dragon god like shinryu or just another warrior fiend like himself, it would be epic!

You know, I imagine this soundtrack being played in the final clash between Gilgamesh and Bartz when Gilgamesh finally defeats Bartz with Excalipoor in hand. And when Bartz is knocked down lying on the ground, Gilgamesh notices that he just killed of his drive to continue his wandering. And then he pushes the Excalipoor into a stone and fades away to the rift. And the Excalipoor can just be pulled out of the stone by someone who can take Gilgamesh's place in the world of Final Fantasy. So sad ;(
