@hospitalbedpan1 I think Neil was particularly making a statement about HIS songs. As I recall (and like a lot of artists when they are still active), he wanted the public to dwell less on his old songs and concentrate on his new ones. Kind of similar to what Rick Nelson was getting at in "Garden Party".
@vinylsingleman think you are not interpreting it right. The memories from the songs last, but "type" of music is hear one minute and gone the next. Just look at all the pop genres pushed on us from the 80's to today.
Have to say it...great melody, great singing by Neil...but the message is WRONG and YouTube has proven it more than ever. Yesterday's songs DO last forever, and this one is no exception.
Way back in the days of 8-track, I was working as a gopher for a recording company. Thanksgiving week, I drove a truck from Phoenix to Yakima WA, 2 1/2 days because of the size of the truck containing on-site recording equipment. This was on a cassette in the truck. Played this song for 2 1/2 days, except for stops at motels and to eat. Loved every minute of it.
@DAMONEWRIGHT Your not only the only one..... I heard this on a Easy listening station today and searched it under "Like say'in I love you" ....it tested my google skills to eventually find it .......glad I did !
MAN I THOUGHT THE NAME OF THIS SONG WAS LIKE SAYIN I LOVE YOU
