Is Sissy being ironic in this song? I don't see how she could genuinely be objecting to Lennon's nudity, given that she has herself appeared fully nude many times on film (Prime Cut, Carrie, Welcome to LA). Was she mocking the protesters? Please advise!

I love how everybody tries to rationalize this song and come up with answers for why, how. Columbia had the song already and she fit the bill. It was a protest song about the cover of "Two Virgins." Never hit the charts. Was a flash in the pan. People are taking the lyrics and saying, "That doesn't pertain to this or that." Who cares?

This was recorded before Spacek was in films. She did not write the song. She says in the actors studio interview she was a hired hand on it. She looks back at this with bemusement.
