  • My son has 18 pints coming out of the canner as we speak. He has already canned about 30 lb. and we just love it. It is so convenient to just open a jar. He put some in green beans, sausage and potatoes after frying a bit and it was wonderful. Will have to try oven or microwave method. We didn't know you could can bacon either until we watched the videos from the youtubers that you mentioned. Also canned deer meat from front legs, neck and ribs that we normally don't use. Came out fork tender.

  • @auctionpuggy123 How WONDERFUL!! Are you videoing it?

  • @permiepat Good idea with the vinegar. I use an alcohol wipe to clean the grease. I have canned the bacon with the parchment paper and the bacon crumbles anyway. Glad to see you have had success without using parchment paper! Mrs. LP

  • Yummy my most favorite canned item BACON!!! Blessings!

  • Look at Ironhead41 video on how to do bacon. He shows how to roll it up easier. That is how I did mine and it turned out good. They say if you put it in the oven it crisps it up real good. Check it out...

  • @permiepat Thanks VERY much for the fresh perspective!! The next bacon I can will me my home cured stuff..I have a feeling it will be much more rewarding.

    Have a great day!

  • Since the bacon crumbles when you cook it out of the jar anyway, I canned in half pints without parchment. I just stuffed the bacon in like raw meat and pressured it for 75 minutes. I think we will enjoy the special bacon taste in bean soup or scrambled eggs, but I can't imagine we will use a whole pint per need. But there are only a few of us.

  • I've never tried to upload a video on youtube. I'm going to have to have my sons show me how to do it though. Like you, our freezer is full and canning the bacon was a good way to store it. With the deer meat my son browned the deer meat with onions and added water and salt to can it. We opened a jar and made beef stew which took no time at all since the deer meat was already tender. It was delicious. Love your videos. Very informative!

  • Like you we don't eat a lot of bacon so I used the pint jars also. I need to open a jar some time to see how it turned out. I have read some postings that if you heat it up in the over or microwave it comes out better. Thanks for the video..........Paula
