Railroad folk singer and retired union trucker Larry Penn sings "Fishing Blues" with reworked lyrics about the Wis. Department of Natural Resources' "Fish Car" Badger #2 at the Madison Gandy Dancer Festival on August 12, 2007. The purpose of the festival was to raise money for the restoration of the car, kept at the Mid-Continent Railway Museum in North Freedom, Wisconsin.
For more information about the car, see http://www.midcontinent.org/collectn/woodpas/wfc2.html
The DNR had an old fish car
They named it "Badger 2"
It was plush and full of stuff
to satisfy the crew
They traveled all around the state
they gave Wisconsin something great
Well I'm goin' fishin',
yes I'm goin' fishin',
And I bet you're goin' fishin', too
The DNR had a Pullman car
and it was painted green
It was made by George of course,
of varnished wood and steel
The Muskie fry traveled all in class
with walleye, pike and perch and bass
I'm goin' fishin',
yes I'm going fishin',
And I bet you're goin' fishin', too
Now the DNR sold the old fish car
but it's still around today
It might be old but I've been told
what the history books all say
Them good old days are fading fast
but we got something that will last
I'm goin' fishin',
yes I'm goin' fishin'
And I bet you're goin' fishin', too
My little brother's bout to drive me out of my mind
sayin' "Can I go fishin', too?"
So I took him on down to the fishin' hole
What do you think that he did do?
He caught a great big fish on a rod and reel
but once it rode on a railroad wheel
I'm goin' fishin',
yes I'm goin' fishin'
And I bet you're goin' fishin' too (Repeat)
