Beatiful song..But the singer off the tune..?

Yearwood's fine when she has a good song to sing, like "Coming Back to You."
When I said Cohen couldn't sing I wasn't using Mariah Carey as the standard. She doesn't know the difference between singing and showing off her voice. I was just thinking of someone who could sing "Happy Birthday" without spoiling your appetite for the cake.
Never heard Mr. Vysotsky but I'll take your word that he's good. I like Bob Dylan but certainly agree that his singing is an acquired taste.

@keithsmith1948 The notion that this category of music emphasizes a singer's vocal abilities is wrong. We have the opera for that- Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Maria Callas are true "great singers". Trisha Yearwood and the like are mediocre singers who produce vapid music. It's true that Leonard Cohen is not a good singer, but his vocal abilities are sufficient to convey his genius songwriting and music. It's the same story with Bob Dylan and Vladimir Vysotsky- they are bards, not "Mariah Careys."

@keithsmd ...
And you've seen all the episodes of American Idol, right?
Various Positions is my all-time favourite Cohen album. It is such an overlooked pearl.

Love this part:
There are many in your life
And many still to be
Since you are a shining light
There's many that you'll see
But I have to deal with envy
When you choose the precious few
Who've left their pride on
the other side of
Coming back to you
