In July Santa Clara County supported by South Santa Clara County Fire Protection District, Cal Fire, Gilroy Fire Department and San Jose Fire Department responded to reports of multiple structures on fire on Monterey Road in Morgan Hill. First units on scene reported fully involved structures with additional structures threatened, and called a second alarm response.
About three hours into the instance whimpering was heard from underneath the rock structure making up the Pool's fountain. A litter of puppies had been sleeping in the pool house when it burnt up. While the surface of the rocks was charred by the fire, a small crevice between the rocks allowed a puppy to find refuge. Alerted by the whimpering firefighters were able to find and retrieve the puppy, and reunite it with his owner after a quick medical check.
