@Maninnen Cool, i'm a french cadet myself :) I also agree with you, just wanted to say that an accident happenned on the container ship CMA CGM Christophe Colomb, the security officer and a cadet, both french died durind the lauching of a lifeboat (not free fall) a davit one the hooks have probably broken so its of course really dangerous!
During my boarding they used strenghtened straps in addition to the hooks
@Maninnen I'm fully aware of all that, I'm a 4th engineer and I've done the CPSC course, I still don't trust free fall boats. Believe me, it's entirely possible to not notice a hairline crack in a fibreglass boat!
@Paraffinmeister The only thing that can happen is a lauching in which people inside are not strongly maintained by their security (for head also since the impact is pretty strong).
Lifeboats and liferafts etc are checked every week by the officer in charge so there is no chance to have a crack in a lifeboat during such drill :)
@Sp1kerPistol After hearing some of the stories about how they can go wrong and how easily they can go wrong (like the test launch where nobody noticed a hairline crack in the hull and it turned inside out on impact and sank like a stone taking everyone inside with it) I'd still sooner take my chances with a davit boat.
@Fur2 i did too. it was legen, wait for it. DARY!! tsa

@Paraffinmeister That's a made up story - never happened. Truth is, there has NEVER been a serious accident with free fall lifeboats EVER.
