Britain left the gold standard in 1931, as did the U.S. in 1933. By 1937, not a single country remained on the gold standard. After World War II, the U.S. partially restored the gold standard for international trade. Thats not from Wikipedia...don't rely on wikipedia.

Other facts to note here:

In 1965 under LBJ, the USA began minting dimes and quarters (previously 90% silver) out of base metal, and cut the silver content of the half dollar from 90% fine to 40% fine. By 1971 ALL silver had been removed from our circulating coins.

The Bush "stimulus checks" were the economic equivalent of printing billions of dollars' worth of "$1,000 bills" backed by nothing.

Finally, from a Constitutional standpoint, fiat currency is not the same thing as money.

At work I have access to the news wire...so I see the stories that never end up making it also. I could also be slightly wrong that they cancelled the entire event in Maryville, but a group has a Christmas event where they light the tree in the town, and it is a tradition that they close with reading scripture about the the Christmas story from the Bible. The tradition is ending because some people don't wanna hear the Bible. I have an idea...how bout they jut don't go! Happy Holidays! ha
