Sensationalism is a manner of over-hyping events, being deliberately controversial, loud, self centred or acting to obtain attention. It is also a form of theatre.

In mass media

The term is commonly used in reference to the mass media. Critics of media bias of all political stripes often charge the media with engaging in sensationalism in their reporting and conduct. That is, the notion that media outlets often choose to report heavily on stories with shock value or attention-grabbing names or events, rather than reporting on more pressing issues to the general public.

In the extreme case, the media would report the news if it makes a good story, without much regard for the factual accuracy or social relevance.

The NHL playoffs have been FAR from "boring" this year; so many compelling playoff series & storylines, & people are still talking about the Flyers' epic comeback vs the Bruins. You don't see historic comebacks like that in the NBA & probably never will LOL. Lucky for the NBA, the Lakers & Celtics made the Finals this year though.

@ckendall67 First of all, I NEVER said that the ENTIRE Stanley Cup playoffs was boring. I made this video during the second round of the playoffs. At the time, the Bruins were up 3-0, and there were a couple other series that seemed like they were gonna end quickly. That's why I made this video, because teams seemed like they were dominating other teams at the time.

Furthermore, there have been SOME disappointing series during this playoffs. That's all that I'm trying to say.

@spinnerNsports your right man I thought the Red wings and Sharks would go longer because Detroit did play pretty good. Pittsburgh and Montreal will go to 7 I think and it has been pretty exciting and intense. Vancouver and Chicago very exciting but I thought Vancouver would be ahead. Philly and Boston okay but the whole Dan Carcillo saying Marc Savard bit him is stupid.

@johncenafan8888 Most of the games between the Sharks and the Red Wings were very competitive. I'm just surprised that the Red Wings were only able to come away with one win.

The Canucks looked great against the Blackhawks yesterday, but they looked so bad in game 4. It's hard to figure them out sometimes. I'm not sure if they're capable of beating the Blackhawks three straight times though. We'll have to wait and see.

I hate it when ESPN overcovers college sports they constantly poll and debate about college sports way too much during the pro seasons they are undercovered till the playoffs but there are great NBA and NFL games during the regular season
