The Companion Animal Protection Society (www.CAPS-web.org) organized this multi-org protest to uphold CA Supreme Court Law, making history for animal rights and for free speech in the state of California. Barkworks is supplied by puppy mills in the midwest with many USDA violations. It is unconscionable to breed, sell or buy, while 5 million companion animals die in our nation's shelters every year. The pet trade industry is mistreating companion animals in order to supply pet stores and Internet dog dealers who call themselves "responsible breeders." Puppy mill fronts will no longer be able to hide inside CA malls as they have before this peaceful assembly by concerned citizens. The USDA licenses commercial breeding factories. These are not responsible breeders. Responsible breeders do not sell to pet shops or ship animals to the public

they don't get returned to the puppy mill....you fool...they don't want them back...they already got their money for the dog...they are sold cheap to anyone who will take them...probably to people that think they can breed them and make easy money...with the prices that store charges who can afford to rescue all of those precious babies?

  • @IndisputableIggy

If the dog had died in the store how would anyone know?...the store would not have been shut down because nobody would have known it happened...if that woman had stepped back and not bought that puppy she wouldn't have even known it eventuelly died...it just wouldn't have been in the store anymore...

  • Then if Barkworks is so bad and there's proof, then why don't they just shut it down already? That's wat I don't get!

  • As a rescue worker and dog trainer myself, it's insanely depressing to see that this puppy died OUTSIDE of the store. If the dog was still the store's responsibility and had died under the store's care, the store would have been shut down for cruelty.

I wish people had stepped back and allowed this one last case to pass so that the chain of cruelty could be over and done with.

  • I think this is true but can you go help PEOPLE in Africa first? Sorry, I think we need to "prioritize" people with AIDS first.

  • i think it would be a good idea to buy those puppies so that they wont return to their miserable puppy mill if they are not bought from the store.

  • Rest in Peace, that poor puppy. Thank God that woman bought the puppy and took her to the vet.

  • God bless her

  • i think that this is awesome and everything but most of the barkworks i walk into the dogs are happy and if there sick they are secluded from the rest to prevent an out break. but if the mill thing is true thats messed but at the same time some dogs can survive harsh weather but as for all the rest of what is happening is not cool.
