If people hold a gun to you head and tell you 'take it and shoot at the enemy or I'll shoot you now' most will take the gun. And don't say you wouldn't, you don't know what you would or wouldn't have done in such a situation.
Most Germans didn't have a choice.

@LizardPendragon I don't ask you to respect nazi beliefs and I will make no attempt to defend them. However, most of the German soldiers in WWII were not nazis, they were normal people like me and you who were conscripted into the German army. Even higher up in the ranks not everyone was a Nazi, just look at Erwin Rommel who defied a direct order from Hitler to kill the jews he captured.
I do not ask you to respect nazis, only that you respect soldiers who fought and died for their country.
