In Memoriam for two young men who left us far too soon, Connor Ausland and Jack Harnsongkram.

Down To A River (Alan's Song)
By Connie Kaldor

There are dinners. There is music.
There is laughter. There are tears.
There are memories that go back over the years.
There are marks made in life
Like only good friends do.
Now I must choose to make a mark
For the things I loved in you.

CHORUS: I will go down to a river and plant a tree,
Something strong, wild and living,
For those are my memories.
I will go up to a mountain and sing to the stars.
Can you hear me, wherever you are?

And there's phone calls, and there's crying,
And there's clutching to the chest,
And there's singing songs and throwing dirt,
And laying down to rest,
And there's carving words on stone,
And making church bells ring,
But the river when it freezes over
Still thaws and runs each spring.

CHORUS

Do you hear the ones who loved you
And were glad they knew you well?
Do the hearts you left that miss you
Ring like a bell?

They were two kids that I went to high school with. Jack was 17 and Connor was 18. They died February 5th, 2011 from a sneaker wave that washed them out to sea on the Oregon coast. I didn't know Connor but Jack was an amazing person. So full of life and happiness. The thing I remember most about him is how full of happiness and warmth his smile was and how much he smiled. It is so unfair!

  • RIP Jack and Connor forever! I miss your smile Jack. Your smile always had so much warmth and joy in it! Still can't believe your gone and it's been a year already. You will be forever in my heart!

  • @epicpwnaged Allison S. is merely a friend who shares this account with me, along with 2 others. So if you message me with a "whatever comment" i hope you realize that the main owner (me) will respond with either "stfu" "cool" or "whatever" so dont expect much. That is all. Thank Chu ;)

  • I am so sorry for their loss. My mom and i were there with friends. We are truly sorry for what happened to them. When my mom and I saw this video, we couldn't stop crying. My math teacher was their math teacher as well. Our entire school is sorry for your loss of Jack and Connor. They will be missed and loved forever and always. They'll be in my prayers and dreams for as long as I can imagine.

    -Sincerely Allison S.
