MI Auto Times Fuels Competition with "May the Best Truck Win"
One winner will be selected as the "MI Auto Times Best Truck."
To ensure a fair comparison, Readers who disagree with the MI Auto Times decision are welcome to comment and voice their opinions.
The first comparison is between the Ford F-150 Detroit and the GMC Sierra Detoit. Visit MI Auto Times dot com to view the results and ensuing comparisons.
The GMC Sierra 1500 SLE and the Ford F150 STX are two rugged trucks loaded with standard and optional features, not to mention a huge lineup of different models and configurations from which to choose. Our in-depth analysis of these two frontrunners was extremely difficult because both trucks have strong advantages.
MI Auto Times rates trucks based on the following categories, each with a possible top score of 4 stars: Value, Power, Comfort, And Factory Warranty
There were many standard and optional features that gave the Sierra a clear advantage over the Ford F150 in all four categories.
Earning 4 Stars against the Ford F150's 3 Stars in the value category, the GMC Sierra won because of its: Factory Incentives, Estimated, total cost, Flex fuel capability, and Hybrid version availability
Although the Ford F150 MI is priced slightly below the cost of the GMC Sierra, with Ford's current factory incentive of 6.9 percent at 72 months, the Ford F150 Michigan has a net cost of $1,701 more than the GMC Sierra's net cost, thanks to GM's current factory incentive of 0 percent at 72 months.
In the power category the GMC Sierra earned 4 stars against the Ford F150's 3 and a half stars because the GMC Sierra has better: • Horsepower, Torque, and towing capacity.
The Ford F150 Detroit did have a bigger payload of 1,710 pounds, but it only had a 5,900 pound towing capacity compared with GMC Sierra's 7,200 pounds total towing capacity. The GMC Sierra Detroit won in the torque category, too, with 305 pound feet compared with 294 pound feet of the Ford F150.
The GMC Sierra also had more horsepower with 302 compared with the Ford F150's 248. Another qualifier which made the GMC Sierra a better choice was its offering of a maximum heavy duty towing, trailering package, and snow plow package which the Ford F150 lacked at this configuration.
The interior, entertainment and technology features give the GMC Sierra 3 and a half stars against the Ford F150's 3 stars, in the comfort category. The GMC Sierra includes standard features such as: Cruise control, rubber floor mats, power mirrors, door locks and windows, heated mirrors, leather-wrapped steering wheel, MP3 connectivity, and available rear-window defroster. These features would either be optional or not available in the Ford F150.
The GMC Sierra Michigan also has the OnStar system with one year of service automatically included as standard. The F150 does have a SYNC system with options similar to OnStar but it will increase your cost by $395.
Also, the F150 does have basic entertainment features like an AM/FM radio with CD player but it lacks the MP3 connectivity that the GMC Sierra has. If buyers want to use their MP3 player in the Ford F150, they must upgrade to the SYNC system.
In the factory warranty category, the GMC Sierra earns 4 stars against the Ford F150's 3 stars because of the GMC Sierra's:
• 100,000 mile/5-year transferable Powertrain Limited Warranty with no deductible
• 100,000 mile/5-year 24/7 roadside assistance
• and 100,000 mile/5-year courtesy transportation
The Ford F150 MI only offers a 60,000 mile/5-year Powertrain, 60,000 mile/5-year roadside assistance and no courtesy transportation program.
M
The first round winner is: The GMC Sierra 1500 SLE, never send a truck to do a Sierra's job.
