Unfair Fight: 109s vs a training flight of Tiger Moths

It was a sunny day in late May 1940. I can't say it was a quiet day - since being thrown out of France we were pushing pilots through ab initio training to fighters with just 100 hours behind the stick. If they were lucky, they would get ten hours in fighters before joining their units. But we'd been gutted in France and we needed all the pilots we could get for the storm that was brewing.

I was doing a final solo check flight with two promising young chaps from New Zealand, McKenzie and Cork. Both had potential, Cork more so, because he definitely had the hunter instinct...I could tell by the way he handled even the Tiger Moth with verve.

There were no reports of enemy activity anywhere in the sector - it looked the Luftwaffe were staying home today, doing their own preparations for the battle to come. So I took the lads down to the Dover coast to practice their formation flying.

You may as well train on the ground where you may have to fight, a wiser man once said.

Yes, these chaps were looking very good indeed...

I perfectly remember to have seen an attack by allied fighters on an Arado Ar-96 german training plane. The difference is that it was REAL footage. ¿You said unfair fight? My heroes...

Agreed, but as flight lead if I get 2 pilots killed I think the last thing I am going to get is a spitfire. Dont you agree ?

But just funnin with you, with just a hint of truth. Thanks for posting this. I will not fly the moth but I do enjoy all the tweaks that go into this sim
