This is a video of my girlfriend Danielle and her journey over the past few weeks being diagnosed with conversion disorder. Doctors believe that the disorder may stem from concussions and PTSD due to a homophobic hate crime she suffered in August '10. She is a division one hockey player at Northeastern University on a full scholarship and has had to take medical leave and will never play hockey again. Not much is known about conversion disorder and she wants people to become more aware of this devastating disorder. I'm so proud of her for how she has handled this setback. She really deserves a break and I know one thing that would make her happy is to be recognized by Ellen. I just want something good to happen so she doesn't lose her optimistic outlook. If you could view the video on youtube, like it, pass it along to anyone and everyone, that'd be amazing. Thanks so much!

This is a video of Danielle a couple years ago playing hockey.

UPDATE**

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to let you all know I am doing so much better, I have made so many improvements you wouldn't even recognize me anymore! I still deal with attacks but they are much more controlled! I will try to post a video of healthy clips soon! Thank you to everyone for everything. I did not expect this huge amount of support and to still have it daily is the best feeling in the world. Thank you for all your prayers.

  • Hey I just got diagnosed as having conversion disorder and I'm wondering how long it took for your symptoms to go down?

  • @tt814u I still have symptoms to date, but they are a lot more controlled!! Just stay positive and dig deep, the harder you work now the faster it'll go away and won't linger!

  • Hey girl.. I just want to tell you to keep pushing through this. I have conversion disorder too and it's a struggle every day- but it'll get better. I was a volleyball player- everyhthing may seem crazy, but it does get better with physical therapy and support from family and friends. Hang in there. <3

  • I've been in the hospital for almost a week because I can't move my legs and they have finally diagnosed me with Conversion Disorder. It's a scary thing but I've found the trick to recovery is to stay positive and try to keep moving forward and don't give up when things get difficult.

  • I think It looks a bit more like Gilles de la Tourette sindrome, instead of conversion disorder, :S ( i have both )

  • You have a positive attitude and that is what's needed ill keep you in my prayers i believe im dealing with the same disorder.. Godbless you

  • I had never heard of Conversion Disorders until I came across this video. I have learned something new today! It's nice to see she keeps smiling and is able to find humor! I wish her all the best and hope she never loses her humor!

  • You have a smart dog . There are ppl who train dogs to know and alert you when you're going to start shaking or have an attack , that way you know it's comming and can prepare yourself even if it's just to sit down so you don't fall. The other girl on tv with this disorder is all bruised in the face from falling. Also then the dog could be a registered guide dog and would be able to go with you everywhere . Just a thought. Some extra help for you. I wish you all the best !!!!

  • I just got diagnosed with this. I didn't have it nearly as bad, though I was having a lot of NES which you seemed to be having.
