This Whelen Model 8000 lightbar is the first fully enclosed Strobe lightbar that Whelen produced back in the 1970's
It still works as good as it did when it came from the factory. It has 2 outer double flash strobes, front and rear halogen sealed beam alternating lights and cruise lights.

  • Hi dustystix76, Thanks for the comment. If you want to polish it up like mine use a plastic polish called PLASTIX you can get it in Wallmart, it will make it look like new

  • I remember seeing these when I was a kid.

  • These outer lenses were extremely bad about fading. The reds would look pink and the blue's would look green over time. The amber wasn't really a problem only because there wasn't much it could fade to except a lighter shade of yellow.

I remember the lenses in the halogen rotator version of this model were especially bad about this because the lenses, although colored, were see-through and faded even faster then the strobe style lenses with the diffusion bars in them.

  • no - our blue lights have a lighter blue lens; Europe uses a darker blue that seems a bit purple to me. Our lighter lenses start out perfectly blue but veeeeery slowly fade so they have a very slight greenish tinge.

  • Why is it that all blue strobe lights in U.S. seem to have a greenish tint to them when lit up...Maybe it's the color of the inside bulbs?

  • my fire dept has one of these bars in storage, minus the takedowns and flashers..i'm plannin on one of these days puttin some power to it and seein if it still works. it came off the old command suburban, and the blue side is all faded out..good lookin lightbar ya got there!

  • my vol fire dept had this light on its reserve ford eninge until two weeks ago. it was red and white. they just put a new whelen lightbar on it to replace this one

  • i remember riding in my dads caprice in memphis,tn when they had these.the strobes were blue and they had blinking white circles in the middle for the takedowns

  • Jefferson County Sheriff's Dept here in AR had this kind while I was growing up in the 80s and AR State Police had these with rotators.

  • Correction Model 8000 was the strobe

Model 80 is the rotating model
