  • @CaptainBluebear08 I went to Woodstock, even had tickets the event was blown way out of its orig. intent, It was to get away from the city not bring it to the country, It was cool if you were up close but for most it was ANTS singing, and the rain and leaking porta-potties were gross.I also was a steady Filmore goer and I had a better time at any of those concerts. I dont remember B.Graham's comments in Woodstock film footage but if slo, maybe he felt like it wasn't a good way to put on a "show"

  • Behold the man who compared the Woodstock audience with ants, and then suggested to stop 'em by kindling large fires all along the vicinities (it's in the Woodstock footage). And nobody who kicked the fuckwit in the head. Oh, I guess Jesus was just alright with them.

  • I was at a Chick Corea - Paco De Lucia concert at the Old Waldorf.

The place was packed, but I saw 1 table with 2 chairs. We started

to sit and was told the seats were Bill Grahams'. I said fine, I know who Bill Graham is and when he comes we'll leave.

Bill Graham came by, we got up to leave and he said sit down, I like to walk around. Wow! what a gentleman. He later stood behind us and motion for us to keep our seats.

  • C'mon fella......you couldn't get a hold of a VCR back then? So you camed your TV set? ....Oh why Oh why wasn't this rebroadcast in Sacramento (where I live) back in 1983? I would at least taped it in "Beta Hi-Fi". Life in just not fair sometimes.

  • BILL WAS A GREAT PROMOTER. AND HE WAS GOOD AS LUCKY LUCIANO, IN BUGSY.

  • I know from people that were there that those sentiments were popular, but without Bill a lot of great shows may of not happened.

  • this is a reply to silentknowledge8, NOT aarfeld, BTW

  • no offense, but you're full of shit. bill and chet had different attitudes, but without BOTH of them, the SF scene would have died before it really drew breath.

  • Where would these bands have played if promoters like Bill Graham and Chet Helms hadn't secured venues and promoted their shows? They brought the SF bands to the city and the world beyond--far from destroyers.

  • Bill would pass out donuts etc to people waiting in line.

But it takes a tough man to make a tender chicken.
