Good question. We like our horses to learn to go on either a short or long/loose line. The more slack in the line, the better prepared they are for liberty (no line) work. We also teach them to relax and wait for assistanc if they happen to get "caught up" in the rope. If they step over it, this is a teaching opportunity!
