@Racoonsrule411 Although the chance of the LHC killing us all is not exactly equal to zero. It is far more likely that the earth will be destroyed by a meteor tomorrow morning.

@Strogenforcer They are trying to find new particles and forces. The holy grail of this machine would be the detection of the "Higgs Boson" the "particle" responsible for giving some particles their mass. This is the only particle in the "Standard Model" of physics that has not yet been detected. Finding this would "Confirm" the standard model as a legitimate working model of the universe (not including gravity).

@Gameczar Black holes WILL form. Nobody has ever said that they wouldn't. They do, however, decay before they have a chance to suck in any mass.
