A huge difference in the performance of these two equally equipped tractors. The hydrostatic transmission on the Deere automatically adjusts to optimum power and speed. You can see in about the third push how it picks up speed and takes off with a loaded blade without the operator having to shift gears. The Cat struggles to roll material and keep momentum with a loaded blade. Both machines are brand spanking new.

  • são otimas maquinas mas o diferencial é operador

  • translation: machines are great but the differential is the operator

  • no thanks to hydro for any reason in a dozer

  • @alvie2

Why not? They are use less fuel, perform better and are much simplier. What about hydros in wheel loaders? What about hydros in crawler loaders? The 973 weighs about the same as these dozers.

  • I finally got to hear one of these new k's run the other day. MAAANNN that thing was quite. even when he was deep into a push. Still don't know about going down an engine size?? Anywho deereman out

  • @NewDeereMan

They are surley quite. As for the smaller engine...Deere has a proven track record in increasing power density in applications. Look at the T3 644J and the 744K. This thing is a beast!

  • I'd like to see the total $ amount for repairs at 10k hrs. on both machines... I bet the Deere maintenance bill is considerably higher...

  • Everbody failed to mention that in the deere machine the actualy down sized motors. They went from a 9.0 litter to a 6.8 litter and they incressed the power with a smaller motor. Know the 850k dose have a smaller blade but the cat is does weigh more and has more power but it also has a bigger blade so what they need to do is for production get both tractors with SU blades that are the same size. Then test them again

  • also, I would love to compare the fuel usage between these two.

  • it looks like the deere picks up and carries the last half of the distance, and the cat cuts the whole way. Just what I see.

  • @keerymj deere bs how about a little test smartass did u now deere designed and built the first single cylinder loader and articulating grader and all small cat wheel loaders use john deere front and back diffs i love u want to be operators

  • The time to decide which one is better!

  • of course the deere is going to gain on the cat when the cat operator stays in first gear for the first 30 feet backing up before shifting and the deere is backing up much quicker, operator vs operator making a situation not comparable
