Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton announced Friday that Dominick Calhoun's mother Corrine Baker will be charged with second-degree murder and second-degree child abuse in connection with her son's death.

She is accused of willfully disregarding the condition of her son. Last week Baker's boyfriend, Brandon Hayes, was charged with torture and first-degree murder of Calhoun.

The Genesee County prosecutor and sheriff say the 4 year old endured several days of torture. They say Baker put herself above her son's needs, resulting in his death.

"Our office has determined that there is probable cause to charge Corrine Baker with two counts. Count one is murder in the second degree," said Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton.

Baker, 25, now faces the possibility of life in prison.

"She took in a drug addict and a guy that was selling drugs and her apartment became a drug house where little Dominick and his brother were living," said Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell.

Pickell says as her boyfriend continued to beat and torture Calhoun over a four-day period, several people came to the house to buy drugs.

He says the first came to the house April 9 -- one day into the alleged torture.

"He is there to purchase drugs. He sees Dominick instated. He says, 'You have to get this kid medical attention.' Brandon Hayes responded, 'No, I have warrants for me,'" Pickell said.

"Corrine agrees with Brandon Hayes and stated beyond that, 'We don't want CPS involved,' meaning Child Protective Services."

Police say Baker was alone with Calhoun a number of times over the four-day period.
At one point investigators say Hayes' father came to the apartment and saw

severe burns and bruises on Calhoun's body.

Baker is still being held in the Livingston County Jail on separate drug charges. She's expected to be formally charged in connection to her son's death early next week.
