  • I hate it when people try to compare her voice to alot of these younger singers. Aretha is now 69 years old and and can still capitvate/hold an audience. Let's see what a lot of these younger singers of today are gonna sound like when they have been singing for over 60 years. People need to learn to keep things in proper perspective.

  • I've heard no one *MINISTER* this song like Juanita Bynum. And for gospel music, the key is not to make folks jump and shout, a lot of which comes from emotion moreso than true praise, but to usher people into the presence of God. When Juanita sings this particular song, *EVERYONE* is clear that she does so as an expression of worship. Her version changes the atmosphere - even in an opera hall with a classical orchestra backing her - from mundane to ethereal.

  • She tears this up! 68 and that voice still packs a mean punch!

  • Heart warming voice...I Thank God for Aretha.

  • @meatman99 - this should have been addressed to meatman99. Also Aretha still has you and others at the age of 68 visiting her videos and making comparisons to singers 20 years her junior. I don't know of another singer in our time rocking it like Aretha. It just does not look like she really has to stop unless she truly decides to. Her voice is in great shape these days. I really admire her staying power. And still an A lister!

  • @themostbeautifulone - Whitney would have no peak had it not been for Aretha. Whitney, Luther, Celine and all other great vocalist owe a great deal of their vocal foundations to Aretha and others before them. All of them borrowed from her and unfortunately, only Celine is the only one out of the Whitneys, Mariahs and such to still have most of her upper range. Aretha's may be weaker at times, but at least she has it! If Aretha's voice annoys you, imagine what Whitneys is doing to us all.

  • @meatlman99 Yes I too believe Aretha at her best is greater than Whitney was at her peak or any other singer for that matter. That`s not to take away from Whitney or any other great vocalist but Aretha stood above all others, she was just gifted that way. That woman`s voice was uniquely amazing. Her gift just cannot be explained.

  • To quote someone before "Ma tow dat up."

  • @themostbeautifulone Not sure I understand your point as it relates to the question asked. You consider Aretha's high notes screechy and annoying which is your opinion. You consider her head voice weak...again your opinion. You asked me do I honestly believe Aretha was greater at her peak than Whitney. Having lived through both my answer is YES. That is my opinion...what is so hard for you to understand about that???

  • @meatlman99 That's interesting that so few singers especially the greatest pop singer in the world according to Clive Davis who recorded both Aretha and Whitney, can move you. Personally I have been transported as you say many times by many singers. I have two little girls in my church who make grown folks shout every time they sing. That isn't a big deal really. One of the marks of a great singer is the ability to move the audience and there are many who can.
