Nebraska sucks!
-
Now if case could just do that

@titleshot1 Michigan was the national champion in 1997. Tom Osborne complained that his team was given preferential votes because of his pending retirement.

@BradenNeddermeyer In the history of the 2 schools neb is 4-10 against texas , 38-45 against OU not saying neb wasnt a good school in past but not against those 2

The 2 plays that put UT football back on the national map!

@BradenNeddermeyer this wasn't a rebuilding year for nebraska...the were favorited to win the national championship that year...they were blowing teams out in standard nebraska fashion until the faced a mobile quarterback in jake "the snake" plummer at arizona state...the lost again when they faced another mobile qb in one James Brown...
i won big money on this game...lol

Nebraska can't win them all

That's what made the win so special. At the start of the Big 12, Nebraska was the big dog and was supposed to wipe the floor with old SWC teams. However, Texas set the stage for the future that night. Nebraska is 1-7 against Texas since 1996, the one win coming in the 1999 Champ Game. The South was supposed to be the much weaker half.
Since 96, NU is 4-3 vs TTU and 3-6 vs OU. Since 02, NU is 0-3 vs TTU, 0-5 vs OU and 0-4 vs Texas. Good thing you have A&M, Baylor and OSU to play.

@vindiola Yes. In one of the worst rebuilding years and coaching performances by the Huskers since the 70's. Its real easy to show winning records on NU from '96 or 2002 on...The crazy thing is, Before Calahan, Nebraska's record on Missouri overall is 53-32-3. The second-longest losing streak of 46 consecutive games (behind Notre Dame-Navy's 47 games) was the NU-KU game streak, broken by CALAHAN. Nebraska has a winning record on any Big XII (Big 8 then...) with the exception of MAYBE OU. GBR!!!

@BradenNeddermeyer It's a little difficult to follow your broken english, so I assume you're a Nebraska grad. But, are you saying Nebraska has been in rebuilding mode for the last 14 years? You may notice that your god, Tommy O, is on the sideline of this game, which began Texas' complete dominance of Nebraska. While Calahan was not a good hire for you, he at least brought your offense into the late 20th century.

@BradenNeddermeyer part 2. Also, since you bring up the dominance of your old Big 8 compatriots, isn't it amusing Nebraska decided to abandon all that history just to get away from Texas and OU. Nebraska will have a tough time recruiting Texas now that you don't ever play here. Good luck recruiting against Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State when you are struggling to beat Indiana and Illinois. The quality and loyalty of the Nebraska fan will be fun to see in the next 10 years.

What it comes down to for me is, I was less shocked to see VY run it in than I was when I saw James Brown roll out and throw it to Lewis.
You also have to consider at the time, Texas had spent a ridiculous amount of time prior to that Nebraska win as a mediocre team.
I don't know, you can make an argument for either but to me 4th and 5 was the culmination of great plays by a great player while Roll Left was a defining moment for a team.

Even more, I think this play was a real turning point for Texas football. Although there had been good years prior ('90 Shock the Nation), it had never been like this. Plus, it was a new conference where we weren't supposed to be able to compete and it was against a great team/program that was where we wanted to be.
I think everything that came after (Simms, VY, Nat'l Champ) can be traced to here. If we lose, I don't think we fire Mac II the next year and hire Mack, etc. Changed everything.
