"As a rule with hip replacement surgery, most of pain is gone, or very minimal, within 2 or 3 days." Doctor Thomas P. Sculco, Surgeon-in-Chief at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, notes how pain after hip replacement surgery is generally very weak, and negligent compared to the pain they previously felt from their arthritis.

  • Worst pain I had was through surgery.

  • @wuggster1965 try a Hip resurfacing is does work, saves a lot of bone and imporves function.. But still I do have pain..

  • you have no idea!! before my hip resurfacing I was in so much pain, I put with that pain for years and years. Being born with a dislocated hip is not good, all my doctors have told me that I am to stay out of work.. I agreed! I am still having pain and yes does dis shit hurt, I would say the hip resurfacing brought me back too 60% normality!

  • i just had my turbinate surgery from my nose and its been a day, i feel no pain in my nose but i am vomiting.Doctor said i should be fine within 24 hours.about 2-3weeks i should be able to breathe through my nose and smell alot better :)

  • I had my hip surgery 5 months ago. Keeping in mind that I have a right not to be in pain, I only had pain during post-op and only briefly. Once identified by staff my pain was gone. I got off the narc early. First week I went from 4 norco a day to 1 at night. Then on to tylenol. Then nothing. I am active for the first time in 10 months and sleeping soundly through the night without pain. The key is choosing the best doctor, one who specializes in joint replacement, and then doing the PT.

  • The pain is gone for the doctor because he receives his check and takes off to tour the world, his playground.

  • Shoot. My dad had a hip replacement and was off his butt for a good week in pain, then still had mild pain

  • If this Dr thinks pain is gone in 2 or 3 days I think this man has gotten into the MED

cart!!!!!!!!!!! Don't believe it people. Trust me.

  • do not do it i know that there is pain before but it is totally not worth the pain afterwards what drs fail to tell you is that you can have foot drop nerve damage stroke or heart attack from hip replacement if you bear the pain do it and take your pain meds for as long as possible trust me i have seen this happen.

  • Sculco has done both my hips. Yes post op pain & discomfort, but benefit enormous. You'll be walking within hours and quite freely in a couple of weeks. Don't fear of the operation; you'll be stiff and groggy when you wake up. Say "yes" to pain killers, probably < a week or 2 at most. Push yourself to walk more every day, even if it's at a snail's pace. Walk to a restaurant, have a cup of coffee and rest. Then walk back. Be thankful you have one of the best surgeons in the world on your team
