When we did a tour around Hue, Vietnam, we were able to see a monk offering up tea to Buddha in a courtyard filled with orange and banyan trees

  • This is taken at Thich Nhat Hanh's temple, near Hue.

  • Yeh, it's done at noon :)

  • tktru is correct. This is an offering done every day in Mahayana temples to the hungry ghosts. The monk's right hand is in the Avalokiteswara mudra; Avalokiteswara being the bodhisattva of great compassion.

  • The monk is actually offering what's inside the cup to hungry ghosts (spirits in the hell realms who are suffering due to past karma)

  • i hope buddha find that cup of T tasteful :P
