Oh good :D

Not that I'm...rooting for Esmeralda to die or anything :/ :P It just seems like they never follow the book's ending.

They tried to make the 1956 one as accurate as possible. 1982 comes in 2nd.

Eh, the mid 50's. Censoring at it's best. They probably thought killing her the original way would make her look like a communist.
