12. Impromptu (Queen-Live In Newcastle: 7/9/1986)

While I'm on the subject of the Magic Tour, I should just continue uploading shows from that tour! This is a very fun and underrated show from the tour! Being so close to the Wembley shows (and the performances are pretty comparable), I see Newcastle 1986 as being "Wembley's cousin." This recording has great quality, and it's complete!

Despite having a cold (Freddie mentions getting the snot out of his nose before "Another One Bites The Dust"), Freddie's voice is in pretty good shape overall, and sounds very powerful throughout the show. Many performances on this show beat the "famous" Wembley show (the Saturday show), and can hold its own against the "underrated" Wembley show (the Friday show). Freddie embellishes many songs (often throwing in random high notes, or singing whole lines higher than normal) during the concert. Some songs also have some unique and/or funny phrasing (like "Bohemian Rhapsody and "We Are The Champions"). This gives me the impression that Freddie was having fun on the stage (and the reason why I like this show a lot)! Freddie sings great versions of "Tie Your Mother Down," "In The Lap Of The Gods...Revisited," "Tear It Up," "A Kind Of Magic," "Under Pressure," "Another One Bites The Dust," "Who Wants To Live Forever," "Bohemian Rhapsody," and "Hammer To Fall."

Note: Brian gets a bit too eager during "I Want To Break Free" (he plays the introduction guitar part too early. When he corrects himself, Freddie says "That's better").

Note 2: This concert has the first instance of Freddie hitting the A4s during "In The Lap Of The Gods...Revisited," since the 3rd Leiden concert. This show also is the first instance of the band extending/reprising the ending of "Tutti Frutti."
