June 1989. In this video, the "M/V Ruhr Ore" seen from the "M/V Neckar Ore" in the Atlantic Sea.
The "M/V Neckar Ore", IMO No: 7306609, was the most powerful and fast Bulk Carrier in the World ever. She had one diesel engine B&W 10 K 98 GF with an output of 41.000 HP (30.573 kW). Ten cylinders of 0,98 m diameter and 2 m stroke, giving a nominal speed of 18 knots at 104 rpm. (Abt. 33,3 km/h).
Today, the M/V Berge Stahl (OBO) is the largest Bulk Carrier in the world, but she has one engine of 27.610 HP. In this video, we met at sea, in 1989, with at that time the largest Bulk Carrier in the world, the "M/V Ruhr Ore", but also, she has (she is still in service, as "M/V RUHR N") one engine of 29.370 HP.
As far as we know, there were three Bulk Carriers more, build by Uljanik during 1974/75, in Pula, (Ex-Jugoslavia) (Now Croatia), very close in size and in output to the "M/V Neckar Ore". They were: "M/V Mary R. Koch"; "M/V Tarfala", and "M/V Torne", all renamed to: "M/V Main Ore"; "M/V Weser Ore"; and "M/V Rhine Ore" and all scrapped between years1997 to 2000. All the other Bulk Carriers were and are far less powerful, including many of them that were converted from supertankers with steam turbines.
Ship Characteristics of the "M/V Neckar Ore"
Ex-M/V Svealand (1973-1978); Ex-M/V World Gala (1978-1986); M/V Neckar Ore (1986-1997)
Ore/Oil Carrier, or Ore/Bulk/Oil - OBO
Built in 1973 and scrapped at Alang (India) in 1997
1 single-acting, 2-cycle, supercharged, solid injection, diesel engine, type EMV/B&W 10 K 98 GF, built by Eriksbergs Mek. Verktad AB, Gothenburg, 10 cylinders, diam.980 mm, stroke 2000 mm. Output 44.500 IHP, 41.000 BHP at 104 RPM. Ind. Mean pressure 11,7 kp/cm2 . Engine arranged for running on heavy fuel oil with a viscosity of max 3.500 secs Redwood No 1 at 100ºF. Main engine can be remote controlled from navigating bridge.
4 superchargers, type VTR 750. Maker: Brown Boveri.
4 scavenging air cooler, type SLK. Maker B & W.
Average fuel oil consumption, loaded, abt. 141 tons per 24 hours, plus 5 tons diesel oil.
Average speed 15,8 knots
1 solid, right-handed, bronze propeller , 4-bladed, diam. 8.400 mm, pitch 5.360 mm. Maker: Stone.
1 steelcasting spare propeller with same dimensions. Maker: Strömmen.
Ship dimensions: Length 338,15 m, Breadth 54,56 m, Depth 28,95 m., Draft 22,82 m.
Max. displacement: 325.635 long tons
3 bower anchors (one as spare), stockless, about 23.900 kg each. Maker: Centromor.
Chain cable, 117 mm of special steel K3. Maker: Bulten-Kanthal AB.
Other information:
"M/V Neckar Ore" had the largest cylinder diameter: 980 mm, following with "M/V Emma Maersk" (Containership): 960 mm, and "M/V Berge Stahl" with 900 mm.
These ships, full loaded, only can enter in two ports in the world: Europoort (Rotterdam) EECV terminal, and Ponta Madeira - Tubarao (Brasil), because they are megadepth.
Loading operations: Ponta Madeira -- Tubarao (Brasil): Two shiploaders with a capacity of 16.000 t/h each, but they only operate individually. That means that in one day, a vessel of 300.000 dwt can be full loaded.
Unloading operations: EECV terminal (Rotterdam): 3 colossal grab cranes ( 3 x 60 ton grab unloaders with a capacity of 2.300 t/h each). Working the 3 cranes continuously, they can unload the ship in less than two days, but normally between two and three days.
Both, Ponta Madeira and Rotterdam, are the terminals with larger loading and unloading rate for ore in the World.
For more information, please see the video "Port of Rotterdam" in the serie Megastructures, made by the National Geographic Channel.

@bluecoatscheesypoofs 73 hours. I whooped your ass. I also crashed into some other ship doing 3.7 feet per hour (220 feet per day, traveling a total of 1320 (1 mile is 5280 feet... one quarter is 1320 feet) feet before running out of fuel. Some sort of dingy. The wind WAS in it's favor.
Stupid math joke.
My brain seems to be doing math properly. 2+2 = ......... 10. well, in Base 4, I'm perfectly fine. The cake wasn't a lie.
