PLEASE READ!!
Extremly rare, and horrid quality tull footage. Pro shot from 1975.
I remastered this footage. It looks a lot better than it did before, and the audio is much better too
I didn't upload the last part of the song where Ian sings again because it is already on youtube...
I learned about this footage from my good freind, Paul Hart...
Thank you for watching this extremly rare footage.
Real tull fans would love this even for its quality, because of the rarness and great Significance of this footage...
Enjoy!

  • Hi again Nick.

I can see that the end of this clip IS the beginning of the footage released on the 25 year anniversary tape, so that is CONCERT FOOTAGE, not a lip synced promo like I thought. For some reason part of the audio is dubbed on that as Ian's lips don't exactly match the audio at some points. But I know now that the video is concert footage, not a lip-synced promo like I thought.

    THANKS AGAIN FOR POSTING THIS!

  • Yes, The last part on youtube and the box set is a lip sync.

    Its sorta confusing.

    Thanks for watching!! Nick

  • THANKS!!! You said you were going to edit Paul's video, but I didn't check for over a week. GREAT to see this!

  • yeah, too bad about the quality.

    Thanks for watching!

  • This is a fantastic find. Well done mate,

  • In fact, Tull DID play the whole "Minstrel In The Gallery (song)" live during the 1975 Warchild tour.

There are evidence of such performances in some bootlegs such as Star Point or Dekalb 1975, and, according to the Ministry Of Information, the whole Minstrel was also played entirely at the performances near the one in Paris, being very likely played at the same date.

Now, if the Pro-Shot version we have is the live one, the answer is a clear and loud no.

  • Jeffrey Hammond is a badass!

  • I haven't had a chance to check out the alternate endings you posted yet.

  • Don't be fooled by the editing.

That MIMED part of Minstrel was spliced onto the back of this REAL LIVE segment.

Clever editing, but never happened in reality.

  • Okay Drunk... I posted a video showing the TWO different endings of Minstrel that Tull filmed during sound-check. I like the one where he jumps up and lands backwards. The other one where he just salutes the "crowd" and walks away is so lame.

And also, the audio they used was from the SINGLE 45 European release of the song, Minstrel in the Gallery. It ends so abruply... again really lame. Thank goodness they never played it that way live.

  • Okay Nick. I put up the TWO different versions of the ending of Minstrel. Which one do you like better? I think the saluting one was just LAME. I like the one where he jumps up and lands backwards.

I read that Ian filmed Minstrel at sound check to CONTROL the quality of the lighting and camera work for that song.

  • There's nothing to agree or disagree about. Ian shot the mimed part BEFORE the audience got there because he wanted a "controlled atmosphere" to film the mimed part... using full stage lighting and having the cameras onstage with the band... which he didn't want during the live concert. And Ian wanted two different endings shot. I'll post BOTH endings tomorrow... together with the French magazine where he talks about filmming Minstrel "during" the soundcheck... NOT during the actual show.

  • Both of you guys posted great segments for the rest of us to see and I appreciate it.

I just don't agree with you about the other part being mimed.

  • Oh... and the mimed part (filmed during sound check) was spliced onto the back of the acoustic and intrumental LIVE parts for the purposes of the FULL 8-minute promo of Minstrel... which Nick cuts off here at the 4:17 mark. Both Nick and I have the FULL 8-minute promo. You can see the obvious change in lighting and camera angles after the switch is made from the REAL live parts to the faked mimed segment.
