  • I'm sorry about Skittles...what happened to her? I had two lorikreets fly out the door at the same time, one came home but poor Coco never came home. I miss her every day. She was such a character.

  • @Arcane7707 SKITTLES WAS DIAGNOISED WITH CARDIAC DISEASE WHICH CAUSED FLUID TO BUILD UP IN HER ABDOMEN. SHE HAD TO BE DRAINED EVERY 10 TO 14 DAYS AND EVENTUALLY GOING IN WEEKLY. THERE WAS COMPLICATIONS WHEN SHE WAS DRAINED THE LAST TIME WHICH MADE IT HARDER FOR HER TO BOUNCE BACK.

  • hi. so sorry to hear about skittles. i have followed him on youtube. i own a rainbow lorikeet named Bobby. i am curious to ask how you handle the cleaning of poo when he is loose in the house, also, what do you use in th bottom of your cage?

  • @kay6289 - When I had Skittles, I used the walnut litter in the bottom tray and I used plexiglass on the sides (except the front) of her cage. The plexiglass was a life saver for not only her poo, but when she splashed around in her bath bowl. Water still got on the floor, but not as bad. Skittles was only loose when I was home so I would get her to poo on command. If I forgot - she would poo & I would clean it up...no big deal.

  • @xxxxUsernamexxxxxxx most parrots when well cared for can live up to 30 years

  • @luvkatz6 no not yet, I am sure it will be soon though I have a cockatiel called Ash who is a very good talker I expect her to mimic him at some stage. I am in South Australia and these are a native bird on the East Coast on a recent trip to Sydney I fell in love with them, when the wild ones would also display friendliness towards humans. Like many parrots here they do live for a long time, like children

  • @mumandtwins Has your Skittles started talking yet? Skittles learned to say her name when she was 8 months old....after that, she learned so many words and sentences. She even learned to call the cats and they would come. Needless to say, I would have to give them treats. :-) Yes, they grow up fast ~ You never know how long you'll have them.

  • @luvkatz6 Skittles hatched in December 2010 and I got her a month ago, so even though she was an avery bird, she is easy enough to handle, I didn't realise the grow up so fast, and of course I have to watch my cats with her, they wouldn't hesitate to make a meal out of her.

  • @mumandtwins Your Skittles is very young. How old was she when you got her? They do make wonderful pets - very smark & affectionate. My Skittles lived with six cats when she was alive, and she respected them and they respected her. You might want to really watch your Skittles closely. A cat can and will only take so much before striking. I would hate for something terrible to happen to her. She's a beautiful bird!

  • they are a lovely bird and ironically my lorikeet is also called Skittles she is 4 months old I have just uploaded a couple of videos of her tormenting my cats
