This video gives a good explanation of the fifth amendment. Whether it's being pulled over by a patrol officer, being interrogated at the police station, and when it comes to the fifth amendment it seems best not to incriminate one's self.

Basically if they cannot give YOU a reason why you have to identify yourself. You don't have too. There is no law stating you must do so at any request without them giving a "Reasonable Suspicion of crime or involvement thereof". They MUST have a valid reason to suspect wrongdoing or intent to do so. Not just "you are standing there and I don't like it" or "you has gun" etc... etc...

This is not applicable to all countries.

A lot of countries in Europe have laws that dictate that you have to identify yourself with identification to any police officer.

That was great. The policeman basically said that juries (and therefore any court proceeding with a jury) fail to function in the way they are meant to. He's basically saying that the jury system will never function the way it is intended to.

Well, the police do say "everything you say or do can and will be used against you." they just forget to tell you they'll misquote it as well.

I suggest you reread my comment. I didn't call you a name. I made a clear and blunt observation of your actions. The 5th Amendment does not keep you from having to identify yourself while under detainment. Period. It's been decided in the courts that identifying yourself while under detainment does *not* violate the amendment. Whether or not the detainment is rational or warranted is irrelevant. You as a citizen are still required to ID yourself while detained in at least half of the US states.

Hate to disapoint you but some state's such as Georgia have a law on the book's that mandate's every person have ID on their person's at any time out in public. Now a cop should not just walk up and demand to see some ID but it's a catch 22.if one does.

ONLY IF they say yes AND tell what crime you are being investigated for. This has been argued repeatedly by the SCOTUS. Your right to privacy is (supposedly) absolute unless you are being investigated for a crime. YES if you are being legitimately investigated you must ID yourself for public record and only if the detainment is a lawful one. Not every encounter with a cop is lawful NOR is it an investigation. Sometimes they are just trying to get you to admit to something. So they can get you.
