The godfathers of early 1970s Japanese glam punk Vodka Collins filmed being interviewed. The Alan Merrill composition "Skying" playing in the background is from their 1996 reunion album "Pink Soup." It's a song built entirely around one chord, and the lyric details the inexplicable chemical elation that comes with a perfect kiss.
Vodka Collins are veterans of the Group Sounds era, Masyoshi (Mabo) Kabe on bass guitar is formerly of the Golden Cups, Hiroshi "Monsieur" Kamayatsu on rhythm guitar ex-The Spiders, Alan Merrill ex-The Lead on lead vocals and guitar, and Hiroshi Oguchi ex-The Tempters on drums.
This interview situation was filmed by Vodka Collins head roadie Jun Kaneko with his handheld video camera.

"When kisses are on fire
They take you up so high
When kisses are on fire
Feels just like you're skying
Feels just like you're skying

When kisses are on fire
There's no real reason why
When kisses are on fire
Feels just like you're skying
Feels just like you're skying

If we kiss and close our eyes
It's as near as it get to heaven here
If we kiss and open our eyes
I see your should so clearly
So pure
Feels just like you're skying
Feels just like you're skying
Feels just like you're....."

  • Alan Merrill will be in Japan this August 12th 2010 to perform at the Joe Yamanaka benefit at Club Crocodile in Tokyo. He will be on stage with Monsieur Kamayatsu and Take Yokouchi founding members of Vodka Collins, so it will be a kind of band reunion.

  • @fabnekko He just played at Club Sensation in Yokohama Japan on November 12, 13 and 27th 2010. I hear that they were great shows.

  • Polka dot ties are the new jazz!

  • LOL!

  • Alan does this song sometimes in his New York solo acoustic shows recently.

  • Though Alan Merrill is singing lead vocal on this song the camera is mostly on Monsieur Kamayatsu in this clip.

  • @tsunamisasumi YEAH!

  • @fabnekko He changed the date to the 11th of August and did a great show with the band Tensaw backing him up!

  • There's a nice nice loose laid back feel to this!

  • Fuzzy bee bass, cool jazzy vocals.
