The Glory of Cremona: A Violin by Joseph Guarneri del Gesu named The "Plowden" made in 1735 and played by here by Ruggiero Ricci. The "Plowden" is certainly one of the most beautiful del Gesus in existance. It takes the name from the well known English amateur player, C.H. Chichele Plowden, who also owned three other fabulous Guarneris and four Stradivaris. It was later in the possession of another famous amateur, Louis D'Egville, and still later in two other famous collections, those of Baron Knoop and Richard Bennett.
