There's a type of dance that I've seen a couple of times now, seemingly only done by women, where the crowd claps a certain beat and the woman in the center of the circle dances to it. This was after a meeting in Mbatwe, one of the communities we work in, so the reason the clapping isn't as in unison as it should be is because all the Care For Life field officers (who were Mozambicans, but not from this community, and didn't know the beat) were trying to clap along.
I just happened upon this video, and I'm glad I did. I collect children's hand clap rhymes. Gooble Cocojams Hand clap, Jump rope, and Elastics. I've been wondering whether hand clapping another person's hand was a traditional part of dancing in African cultures -I've seen YT videos of Irish Hand Clap dances. While this video didn't answer my question, I like how the woman dances while clapping her hands. I'm adding this to my other site. Google Jambalayah. Search there for this title. Thanks!
