im stumped I bought the speed mechanics for lead book and alota the exercises help but when I try A new pattern I do it then kinda wonder off in diffrent poxitions in myown playing is that bad or should I juxt stick to the book and obey the teachers print?

@Barefoot67: Yeah, but if you compare his books to other books (esp of the time back then), you got to admit his are better than most. Various books I had before Metal Lead Guitar 1 and Speed Mechanics nearly made me quit guitar. I wish he had the resources to write a bible-sized guitar book. I bet he would write an entire chapter on relaxation.

It is sad that a musician like Troy Stetina never made a breakthrough in the music industry. In my humble he is in the top 20 list of the best guitarists in the world because of his versatility and musicality and of course his technique. Recently his band "Second Soul" released a truly great and fresh album which i bought. SUPPORT OUR MASTER TEACHER TROY BY BUYING HIS ALBUM!!!!

he's a good teacher and author but not great, cause he's bad at explaining exactly HOW to practice. He does mention here that you must stay relaxed, but he doesn't really hammer down how cruzial it is to relax to actually increase speed and how easy it is to tense up when trying to play fast.
Same thing with muscle memory. You HAVE to explain these two things way more than Troy has done. I mean he doesn't even mention it in Speed mechanics, not even once.,...it's a disaster

@armannpals Yeah i agree with you. I actually never heard of this guy until I bought the Mark Tremonti DVD and man did he blow me away! He is an outstanding musician.
