my bad on the bad grammar I was in a rush, I meant to say that there were no standing armies until after the 18th century. Until then the European leaders would rise the armies when a war came about and hire mercenaries to supplement the force i.e. the forces from the German states during the American revolution. The founding fathers wanted a military to be present to protect people's rights, and now we have one. We don't need to allow guns to kill thousands of people a year.

the 2nd amendemtn guarantees a right to raise a militia to protect the rights of the people, like john locke wrote about and the founding fathers believed in. THEY NEEDED A STATE MILITIA BECAUSE THERE WERE NO STANDING ARMIES UNTIL IN THE 18TH CENTURY. The founding fathers wanted people to have guns in order to raise a militia, but now we have a standing military so we don't need to let thousands of people die to gun violence.
