Boeings Airborne Laser (ABL) will locate and track missiles in the boost phase of their flight, then accurately point and fire the high-energy laser, destroying enemy missiles near their launch areas.

Well, I have actually seen a nearly soundless aircraft in Nevada that looked stealthy, and I saw it execute a perfect 90 degree turn. So I think that the U.S. military has highly secretive aircraft that we probably will not hear about for 30 years, aircraft that can far exceed the capabilities of the f35 and f22.
yes planes fly faster than bullets. However, basic physics tells you if you fly faster than a bullet it will not come out of the barrel when fired. so...they have to slow down . thats why machine guns on planes still work and you need manueverability.
thats the biggest load of crap ive ever heard. you certainly do not need to slow down to fire a gun in a plane. to slow down in a battle would be to endanger yourself. dont talk about basic physics if you dont know it. the bullet WILL exit the gun, as it is travelling at the same speed as the aircraft. to fire it would only increase its overall speed.
@MrBoost1975 Are you kidding me? If you want to talk about "basic physics" then you should know what you are talking about first. Of the bullet will leave the barrel! It will only increase the speed not make it stop! god man
Wow. We've got a bunch of Special Olympians in here today.
The F-22 is a fine aircraft, but the F-35 stomps is operationaly in weapons, stealth, deployability, adaptability and- most importantly- monitarily. They cost less to build and maintain. The mission profile also allows the F-35 to fly farther and stay in OA longer with less refuling.
The eurofighter typhoon is arguably as good or better and is 1/2 the production cost.

The F-35 is a great aircraft - but its not under sole US control.
The F22 is assurance that even if a country with F35 technology(or counters) decides to go to war USA will still have Air supremacy.
