Yugoslavia was one of many nations under Axis occupation in WW 2 that had a committed partisan-guerilla resistance and which in the post-war years was treacherously betrayed by American-English interests, essentially punished for having too-liberal ideals of democratic self-rule & national autonomy that wouldn't make concessions. Just as Greece, Morocco, Egypt & others.
