ney persian beginner

This is a video to show what the Persian ney sounds like when played badly( I am a newbie), but it was fun. improvised. What is interesting about Persian neys is the way the sound is produced. No other flute that I know of is played this way. The advantages: You can bend notes in as many ways as you change the shape of your mouth. Also, you really need an adult mouth to play the persian ney(someone correct me if I'm wrong), so its good news for those wanting to learn an instrument later in life. Downside: Need serious patience to make a sound, and it doesn't look apealing.

From all the people I have met who play the ney, it is probably the hardest wind instrument to get even a sound out of. So please be patient. The only way to show how to play is if i had a model of the mouth to show frm the inside, which I don't. Otherwise it is impossible to see how it is played. I have tried to explain it before. Hello i just have receive my ney last friday and it very tough to play.Can you give me advice or can you put a video from you play without put finger on hole just to know what is the good sound to have

I am not the best person to ask this from. I had a ney before this one, which I found impossible to play, so the Ney does matter too. Is yours a beginner ney? I got mine from Kees Van den Doel. A beginner ney. His website also has the best information on how to play. Google his name to get to Persian ney website. Any sound is a good sound. I was told that after a year of daily practice the "breathy" aspect of the sound would go away, and it slowly has, though not in the higher octaves.

agha how do you even make a sound?!?! we've been trying for weeks with no luck!!! can you please put up a lesson at the pre-beginner level as to how to blow and where to put the ney exactly?

left side is left edge of tongue forming a (adjustable)seal with left-top side row of teeth.

The exit of the breath tunnel is split in two vertically by the edge of the ney. If the ney entrance was a clock face, this edge would start at the top at 10oclock (where it touches/goes between the two front teeth) and goes down counterclockwise to a maximum of 6 oclock, touching the bottom teeth or tip of tongue. The rest of ney entrance is not blown, just covered by lips and mouth sides.
