  • Beauty counts. She is also graceful, strong and blonde! Her moves are precise. These attributes please the judges. Oh, and her long Nadia-like legs. There is not too much that separates the top 5 or 6 female vaulters at an international competition. The judging is as subjective in this sport as it is in skating. But it keeps it exciting. And sometimes, unpredictable.

Congratulations to this beautiful woman, her father and her horse. Good show!

  • I saw Joanne Eccles and her sister Hannah at Saumur. They are so amazing, so are their beautiful horses and their dad! They're an inspiration to vaulting!

  • I know why she is a favorite. She is so graceful and soft and light on the horse. Beauty is not the only thing that counts. Her choreography and moving with the music was amazing. :)

  • ya so true she looks like shes in beauty and the beast

  • WOW!

  • @Sanchara & @TheMonawithbraces no, neither of these things ultimately contribute to a blue ribbon. Generally, if you have great compulsories your freestyle score will be boosted higher. If two people are competing against each other, for example, and one has great compulsories and an okay freestyle while the other has okay compulsories but a great freestyle, generally the one with better compulsories wins.

  • Sanchara. Who knows what goes thru a judges mind while they determine the scores. I think you might have taken offense re: mycomment but I would like to point out that I think beauty plays a role. Blonde hair has no point value but is part of this particular vaulter's appeal, I think. Should you bleach your hair to increase your score?!? Good heavens, no! Please don't if you haven't by now. lol

  • @TheMonawithbraces so does being blonde ad a bonus to Performance or something lol? She didn't win based on this freestyle - she won becuse of compulsories and technical test. Mary McCormick from the USA had the highest freestyle scores.... although....she too is blonde. Hmmm maybe be I need to go see my hairdresser before competing ;)
